Solr as a service: the transformation of the website 'Meiji-Portraits'
The data of the “Meiji-Portraits” portal was originally compiled by Bernd Lepach until 2022 based on his own research and presented on the website of the same name (http://meiji-portraits.de/). Mediated by Erich Pauer, who repeatedly supported Bernd Lepach in his work, and Regine Mathias (Vice-President "Études Japonaises", Centre Européen d'Études Japonaises d'Alsace (CEEJA)) the Specialist Information Service Asia (FID Asia) took over this data and stored it. Its transformation into the present website took place in 2025 as part of the work package “SOLR as a Service” during the project phase 2025-2027 of the FID Asia.
The website contains information on individuals who influenced the Meiji era in Japan through their work. It presents both Japanese citizens who went abroad for further education and foreign nationals who were active in Japan, the so-called oyatoi gaikokujin. The focus of the data is the period from 1868 to 1905. In addition, the biographies and a chronology of the Meiji period are linked to philatelic items. The companies in which the individuals worked are also included. A search function allows users to search all information on individuals and companies in full text.

「サービスとしてのSOLR」の一環として: 「明治ポートレイト（明治期人物像）」というウェブサイトの移行
「明治ポートレイト（明治期人物像）」は、ベルント・レパッハ氏が自身の積年の研究(-2022)をまとめ、ウェブサイト(http://meiji-portraits.de/)で公開していたデータベースです。
ベルント・レパッハ氏を長年にわたり支援し続けたエーリヒ・パウアー氏、そしてレギーネ・マティアス氏 (アルザス・欧州日本学研究所（CEEJA）副所長）の尽力により、アジア専門情報サービス（FID Asia）が同サイトのデータを引き継ぎ、管理することとなりました。現在のウェブサイトへの移行は、FID Asiaのプロジェクト段階2025-2027に組み込まれた業務パッケージ「サービスとしてのSOLR」の一環として2025年に実施されました。
このウェブサイトには、明治時代にその業績を通して日本に影響を与えた人物に関する情報が掲載されています。海外留学した日本人と、日本で活躍した外国人、いわゆる「お雇い外国人」の両方が紹介されています。データは1868年から1905年までの期間に焦点を当てています。さらに、伝記と明治時代の年表は切手関連資料と関連付けられています。各人物が所属していた企業も掲載されています。個人や企業に関する情報を含む全文検索機能も利用できます。
検索機能の索引データ（人物・企業、画像ファイルを除く）は、下記のCrossAsia Open Access RepositoryのDOIリンクから研究データセットとしてアクセス可能です。
