「論語と算盤オンライン」 : TEIを用いて渋沢栄一の言説と『論語と算盤』をつなぐ
渋沢栄一（1840-1931）は論語を人生の指針として、幕末から昭和初期にかけて幅広い分野で活躍した実業家・社会事業家である。渋沢の訓話集『論語と算盤』（東亜堂書房, 1916）は、渋沢の道徳経済合一主義の思想を明快に表したタイトルの書籍として、現在もさまざまな翻訳書が刊行され読み継がれている。
「論語と算盤オンライン」は、『論語と算盤』をデジタル化し、出典や解題、編者・出版者などの情報とともに公開するためのプラットフォームである。リソースの軸となる『論語と算盤』や出典記事のマスターテキストには、長期保存と活用促進を目的に、汎用性のあるText Encoding Initiative (TEI)のガイドラインに従ってエンコーディングしたXMLを採用している。このマスターテキストには編纂情報を埋め込み、『論語と算盤』と出典記事との比較ができるよう構造化した。
渋沢栄一記念財団では、『渋沢栄一伝記資料』をはじめとする渋沢栄一関連資料を、研究のみならず多様な目的で自由に活用できるデジタルリソースとして開発・提供する事業に取り組んでいる。渋沢は生涯にわたり数多くの言説を成したが、特定のテキストにばかり注目され、見逃されがちなものも少なくない。本発表では「論語と算盤オンライン」で公開する渋沢のテキストについて、その特徴を明らかにするとともに、テキスト公開と活用の可能性について言及したい。
Rongo and Soroban Online: Encoding the relationship between the edited work and Shibusawa Eiichi’s source materials with TEI
Prominent businessman and social entrepreneur Shibusawa Eiichi (1840-1931) was active across a wide range of fields from the late Edo period through the early Showa era. Throughout his life, he adhered to Rongo (the Analects of Confucius) as a personal and ethical guide. His philosophy of integrating morality with economic activity is clearly articulated in his 1916 collection of lectures, Rongo to Soroban (The Analects and the Abacus, Tōadō-shobō), a work that remains widely read today through various translations.
Rongo to Soroban Online is a digital platform that makes this seminal text accessible along with related source materials, annotations, and editorial and publication information. The core resource, comprising the master text of Rongo to Soroban and its sources, has been encoded in XML following Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) guidelines, ensuring both long-term preservation and adaptability for diverse uses. Editorial metadata has been embedded within the master text and structured to enable comparative analysis between Rongo to Soroban and its source materials.
The Shibusawa Eiichi Memorial Foundation actively develops and provides open-access digital resources, including the Shibusawa Eiichi Denki Shiryō (Shibusawa Eiichi Biographical Materials), that can be used for academic research and a range of other purposes. Although Shibusawa left behind an extensive body of written works, attention has often focused narrowly on a few texts, leaving many others overlooked. This presentation introduces the design and structure of Rongo to Soroban Online, while also highlighting the broader potential for publishing, accessing, and utilizing Shibusawa’s diverse written legacy.
