コレクションの再発見: ギメ美術館図書館所蔵ド・モレ・コレクションの再構築
本発表は、フランス国立ギメ東洋美術館図書館の日本コレクションに所蔵される江戸時代の絵入本コレクションに光を当てるものである。このコレクションは1893年に収集家レオン・ジョリ・ド・モレ（1837–1896）から取得されたものであるが、同人物については現在ほとんど知られていない。しかしながら、ド・モレ・コレクションは、その一貫性および保存状態の良さにおいて、きわめて質の高いまとまりを成している。
まず、このコレクションの再発見と再構築の過程をたどる。これらの和本は1893年から1895年にかけて段階的に図書館に登録されたものであり、その全体像は必ずしも明確ではなかった。本研究では、全タイトルを記録した古い文献を頼りに、この資料をコレクションの構成を理解するための重要な手がかりとして位置づける。
次に、今回の発表の中心として、約400点の書目と900冊以上から成るコレクションについて検討する。この中には葛飾北斎や河鍋暁斎といった著名な絵師による作品が多数含まれている。コレクターに関する資料は乏しいものの、書物の物質的特徴や主題、出版形態や年代の多様性を検討することで、コレクションの構成を明らかにするとともに、質の高さや図像の豊かさを重視したコレクター像を間接的に示すことを試みる。
最後に、いくつかの代表的な作品に基づくテーマ別の検討を通じて、本コレクションの文化財的価値および学術的意義をを検証したい。
Rediscovering a Collection: Reconstructing the de Morey Collection at the Guimet Museum Library
This paper examines a remarkable collection of Japanese illustrated books from the Edo period, preserved within the Japanese holdings of the Guimet Museum Library. Acquired in 1893 from the collector Léon Joly de Morey (1837–1896), who remains little documented today, this collection nevertheless constitutes a corpus of exceptional quality, both in its coherence and its state of preservation.
The first part of the paper retraces the rediscovery and reconstruction of this collection, whose volumes were progressively recorded in the library between 1893 and 1895. It draws in particular on an early document listing all the titles, which now serves as an essential source for understanding the original organization of the de Morey collection.
The core of the paper focuses on the study of this corpus, comprising approximately 400 titles and more than 900 fascicles, including numerous illustrated works by major artists such as Katsushika Hokusai and Kawanabe Kyōsai. Despite the scarcity of sources on the collector, an examination of the material features of the books, their themes, and their editorial diversity helps to clarify the composition of the collection and to outline, indirectly, the profile of a collector attentive to quality and rich visual content.
Finally, a thematic exploration of the collection, based on a selection of significant works, will highlight the patrimonial and scholarly value of this still understudied collection.
