Digital Archive Update from The Japan Times

The Japan Times has some exciting news to share about our Archives.

This coming winter (scheduled), we are migrating our database to a new platform to help us deliver greater long-term stability, more powerful search capabilities and improved accessibility for users worldwide.

This upgrade reflects our commitment to providing our users with a reliable, efficient and globally accessible resource.

In this presentation, I will share some background about the Archives, its key benefits and the next steps in the database migration process.

What is The Japan Times Archives?

▶ The Japan Times Archives:

A witness to history and dating back to 1897, The Japan Times is Japan's leading English-language newspaper. Fully keyword searchable and updated annually, its archives are an unprecedented information source.

Our users explore our archives:

  • for articles, photography and advertisements that all speak to Japan’s past, present and future

  • to gain insights into the historical context and evolution of issues of importance today

▶ The Japan Times:

From breaking news to longform journalism, The Japan Times is committed to delivering the news in the most relevant form possible. Unlike many English-language news sources in Japan, we are an independent voice, providing both the local angle and global perspectives.
