Yomidas: New Wartime Content and Enhanced Search Features
Last August, Yomidas, the Yomiuri Shimbun database featuring over 150 years of searchable newspaper articles, introduced a new optional collection, The Wartime Yomiuri (Senji-ban Yomiuri).
The Wartime Yomiuri was a tabloid edition published by the Yomiuri Shimbun during the Pacific War. It began as a four-page newspaper but was gradually reduced to two pages as paper shortages became more severe.
While the front page mainly reported on the progress of the war, the inside pages featured a wide variety of content, including information on daily life, readers’ submissions, serialized novels, and four-panel comics. Some articles and comics were published exclusively in The Wartime Yomiuri and never appeared in the regular Yomiuri Shimbun.
Like other Yomidas content, The Wartime Yomiuri can be searched by keywords and publication dates, allowing users to efficiently explore articles and topics of interest.
The Wartime Yomiuri is not available for trial access. Therefore, the EAJRS Conference offers a rare opportunity for participants in Europe to see a live demonstration of this unique historical resource.
Yomidas continues to evolve as a research resource. At the EAJRS Conference, we will introduce an upcoming new search feature designed to further enhance the user experience. More details will be announced during the conference.

Yomidas: 戦時版よみうりと進化する検索機能
昨年8月、150年分を超える読売新聞の記事を検索できるデータベース「ヨミダス」に、新たなオプションコンテンツ 「戦時版よみうり（The Wartime Yomiuri）」 が加わりました。
戦時版よみうりは、太平洋戦争中に読売新聞が発行していたタブロイド判の新聞です。当初は4ページで発行されていましたが、紙不足が深刻化するにつれて、2ページへと縮小されていきました。
第1面では主に戦況が報じられる一方、二面以降には暮らしに関する情報、読者投稿、連載小説、4コマ漫画など、多彩なコンテンツが掲載されていました。また、一部の記事や漫画は戦時版よみうりのみに掲載され、通常の読売新聞には掲載されていません。
戦時版よみうりも、通常のヨミダスと同様に、キーワード検索や発行日による検索が可能で、関心のある記事やテーマを効率よく探すことができます。
戦時版よみうりのトライアルはご提供していません。そのため、EAJRSは、この貴重な歴史資料をヨーロッパの皆様に実際にご覧いただける絶好な機会となります。
